President's Message

Let me begin by acknowledging that it is an honor, a privilege and a distinct pleasure to serve this organization of talented women.

From the day I joined AWN four years ago, I appreciated its unique place among women’s organizations. We respect the legacy of the past 30 years, yet we are committed to expanding our relevance in the future.

In 2007, we took a big step toward solidifying our relevance for future generations through our platform: I am able. I have the tools. I will shape the future. These words give us more than a catchy way to close our monthly meetings. Each sentence is a plank in the AWN platform.

For me, each plank provides inspiration and reminds me that the hurdles women face in society and in business have not been cleared -- even in the 21st century. Each plank also offers a challenge and an opportunity to stand together as a network of women.

Women are able. Our challenge is not simply to say it, but to believe it, encourage it and live it. Succeeding in the 21st century demands self-respect, self-confidence and focus.

Our Challenge – To Promote Ability.
When we hear a women speak self-deprecatingly, signal her to be positive by raising our pinkie finger. If she does not understand, explain the signal and encourage her to pass it along to others.

I have the tools. Each of us faces the personal challenge to discover tools and build the effective network we need. With our speakers, our structured networking and WomenUP in March, AWN offers professional women myriad opportunities to expand our tool kits and enrich our networks.

Our Challenge – To Identify Tools.

Ask for the tools we need and tell how we have applied them.

I will shape the future. There are still issues with pay equity and leadership representation for women. Every cultural shift begins with one person making a single positive change; when a group shifts together, we become a movement. We believe the mechanism for these cultural changes is within us.

Our Challenge – To Make Progress.

Recognize our ability to change our reality. Invite members of our personal and professional networks to participate. In numbers, there is strength and support and success.

This is an ambitious agenda, but this amazing group of AWN women has the talent, the vision and the drive to precipitate the shift.

How will you participate?

Respectfully,

Jackie White
