 Yelena Epova, CPA

10 Ways To Succeed - Yelena's Own List

  • How to recognize and embrace challenges as opportunities
  • How to build an empire without being born into it
  • How a CPA conducts international diplomacy one deal at a time

CPA Yelena Epova, a Partner at Habif, Arogeti & Wynne, LLP, will address the March 25 luncheon meeting of Atlanta Women’s Network.

Ms. Epova converted her teen ambition of performing as a flying gymnast in a Russian circus, to performing in Atlanta as an internationational transfer pricing specialist. (More)

Transfer pricing typically involves international transactional flows among the members of a multinational corporate group, such as licensing of intellectual property, sales of components for use in manufacturing products, and intercompany financings and loans.

When she moved to the United States, this courageous émigré found the key to professional success through pragmatic agility. Educated in Russia to be an engineer, after moving to the United States she found that she could not find an engineering position so she switched to accountancy, in which her proficiency has helped her to reach the stars.

Specializing in international tax matters at HA&W her practice includes   advising domestic and international companies on international tax issues and tax planning strategies regarding inbound and outbound operations. Additionally, Ms. Epova assists companies in addressing their transfer pricing issues, developing policies and performing transfer pricing studies. She also assists clients with domestic tax issues by providing tax planning and compliance services.

During her formative years her mother, also an engineer, lit the torch for Ms. Epova to progress through adversity. Her mother, an engineer, could not progress her career in Russia because she is Jewish, so now the two women are living and thriving in America.

Ms. Epova is an active member in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants where she served on the task force that is reviewing Proposed Treasury Regulations on Transfer Pricing; the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants where she participates in the Leadership Development Program; and Baker Tilly International where she chaired the North American International Tax Committee for six consecutive years. Additionally, Ms. Epova is a founding board member of GlobalEXECWomen and an active member of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce.

Prior to moving to Atlanta, Ms. Epova earned her Masters degree in Engineering from the Technological College of Leningrad. Upon arrival in the States, she continued her education, switching to Accountancy at Georgia State University.
Awarded the Golden Key Award for highest score on the CPA exam in Georgia and the Elijah Watt Sells Award for scoring in the top 100 on the CPA exam in the nation, she was recently selected by Atlanta-based GlobalEXECWomen as one of three finalists for the International Women of Influence Awards™ in the category of Service Providing Businesses.

Ms. Epova was also selected by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as one of the city’s “up and comers” for 2006. Each year, the paper selects and presents awards to 40 business professionals under the age of 40 who have made significant contributions to their communities and are leaders in their companies. Ms. Epova was most recently recognized by Atlanta Magazine as one of the 55 most influential foreign-born Atlantans.
