THE BRAND CALLED YOU
Positioning Your Brand for Success
Tuesday, April 22, 2008

What is a brand? Why should I brand myself?

How do I build a personal brand? Where do I start?

What kinds of tools do I use to build my brand?

Branding guru Laura Ries will explain why you need to think of yourself as a brand, and show you how to sell yourself to become the star of your career.

President of Ries & Ries, Laura Ries is a leading marketing consultant, bestselling author, sought-after speaker and frequent media commentator.

Ries says, “A brand is a name that stands for something in the mind of the customer. Volvo stands for safety. Federal Express stands for overnight. Starbucks stands for expensive coffee.”

She continues,”It is not only cars, package services and coffee that should be considered brands; people should be considered brands, too, and the same principles apply. It’s not enough to be well known, you also have to stand for something in the minds of other people. What about your brand? What do you stand for?”

Ries will tell AWN attendees how to brand ourselves so that we stand out in our target market.

Ries & Ries was founded in 1994 by Al Ries and his daughter Laura in Great Neck, New York. Prior to 1994, Al was with his former partner Jack Trout in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Laura was working as an account executive at TBWA Advertising in New York City. Al decided he wanted to work with his daughter and Laura decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of working with her dad and mentor.

In 1997, Ries & Ries relocated to Atlanta where they have found a warm climate, friendly people and the world's busiest airport, Hartsfield International.

Ries & Ries consults with top companies across the globe. In addition, Al and Laura travel the world doing seminars on the principles of marketing strategy.

The dynamic duo have been profiled in Business Week, Marketing News, Advertising Age, The Wall Street Journal, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brandweek and countless other domestic and international magazines and newspapers.
